Medco's Medicare-Approved Discount Drug Card in Wisconsin
The WPS and Medco Preferred Prescription Discount Card
Will Cut Drug Costs, Improve Safety
Madison, WI -- April 6, 2004 WPS Health Insurance
(WPS) is offering Medco Health Solutions' (NYSE: MHS) Medicare-approved
Preferred Prescription Discount Card to Medicare beneficiaries.
On March 25, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
announced that Medco is one of 28 Medicare-approved sponsors to
offer prescription discount drug cards to the more than 41 million
Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.
"This partnership will provide a total solution for the prescription
medication needs of a population that historically has had no leverage
in obtaining discounts for prescription drugs," said Bob Andrew,
WPS Vice President, Marketing Services. "We want to provide
our Medicare beneficiaries with benefits above and beyond cost-savings,
such as access to convenient mail order pharmacies, drug utilization
review to reduce medication errors and innovative programs that
encourage the use generics and promote healthy living."
The WPS and Medco Preferred Prescription Discount Card Program
will provide Medicare beneficiaries with access to discounts of
up to 30 percent or more on virtually all branded and generic prescription
medications on the list of drugs CMS has approved as eligible for
coverage. In addition, WPS and Medco will provide access to:
- Medco's Mail Order Service, which provides unmatched safety
and dispensing accuracy with the convenience of home delivery,
and may offer additional cost-savings
- Drug utilization review (DUR) to help reduce medication errors
- Access to any of the 40,000 retail pharmacies in Medco's nationwide
Medicare-approved discount card program
- Generic drug substitution programs to ensure members have access
to lower cost generics, when clinically appropriate, as soon as
they are available
- Medco's award-winning Web site, www.medcohealth.com,
which offers convenient access to prescription benefit information,
online pharmacy transactions and an expansive library of healthcare

- Around-the-clock access to Medco's Customer Care Center where
members can speak with one of the company's 1,800 highly skilled
pharmacists about their medications, or a customer service representative,
who can assist with pharmacy transactions and plan questions
The WPS and Medco Preferred Prescription Discount Card will be
available for an annual fee of $25.
Registration for the card will begin on May 3. Beginning on that
date, Medicare beneficiaries can enroll by mail, through Medco and
WPS's toll-free hotline, 1-877-659-5143, or online at y.
