Right now there are nearly 100,000 men, women, and children across the country waiting for a healthy organ to replace a failing kidney, heart, lung, liver, or pancreas. Every day, 18 die waiting. Together, we can change that. WPS Health Insurance, one of the state’s largest not-for-profit insurers, is leading a campaign to recruit one million new organ and tissue donors in Wisconsin through their ORGANize to Save Lives initiative.

TEAMSurvivorTEAMSurvivor Madison, Inc. provides free or low cost fitness activities and health education programs for women with a past or present diagnosis of cancer. Their fun and supportive programs offer women the opportunity to reclaim their fitness, gain a sense of accomplishment, build a social support system and achieve renewed comfort with their bodies and their health.

One of the exciting and unique methods used by TEAMSurvivor is participation in dragon boat racing. Dragon boat racing is a traditional sport originating in China over 2,500 years ago.  Renowned for the camaraderie, strength and endurance achieved by participants, dragon boat racing is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing team water sports, with tens of thousands of participants in over 60 countries.

Health Cares About Violence Against Women Tragically, we live in a world where one out of three women will be physically or sexually assaulted in her lifetime. Every two and half minutes, somewhere in the US, someone chooses to commit sexual assault.

This year WPS Health Insurance has helped develop a partnership to increase the awareness of everyone’s role and responsibility to stop family violence. WPS Health Insurance is working with the State Medical Society, the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation, and the Wisconsin Women’s Council to call on businesses and health care providers to establish policies that help identify needs and services for victims of intimate partner violence.

Ending Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity is an epidemic. The number of overweight or obese children in America has tripled in the last twenty years. Children are not getting the exercise they need and high-fat, high-sugar diets are the norm. Overweight kids are beginning to develop diseases once considered to be “adult diseases” including type 2 diabetes, respiratory problems, sleep apnea, and depression. For the first time in history, American children could have a shorter lifespan than their parents. The bottom line - our children are at risk.

There is no single answer to this complex problem. So WPS is turning to you – we want your take on the solution to this problem.

Saving Lives at Work

Alzheimer's association memory walk

The Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross, WPS Health Insurance, United Way of Dane County, and Dane County Emergency Medical Services launched a new community-wide workplace safety initiative today called “Saving Lives at Work.” WPS Health Insurance is the first local business to take part in the initiative that will train thousands of Dane County employees in Compression Only CPR.

“WPS has been an industry leader in wellness, and we include safety as a critical part of complete wellness” stated Hanna Rosenthal Corporate Vice President, WPS Health Insurance. “Trying to be a model employer, WPS wants to urge all employers to participate in a training like this – to protect your employees and teach as many people as possible how to do Compression-Only CPR, and how to save lives at work!”
